Supervisor Maxwell,
Members of the SF Board of Supervisors, SFPUC President Ryan Brooks and
Members of the SF Public Utilities Commission:
We, the undersigned
residents of District 10, are opposed to the development of the Trans Bay
Cable (TBC) in our community. There is NO guarantee that building the
TBC will close the Potrero Power Plant. We are concerned that to build the
TBC a huge converter station will be built in our community. We are opposed
to the $27 million “pay-off” the SF Port and PUC have negotiated to gain
their support of the TBC project.
The Southeast
community has long been the government’s toxic dumping ground from power
plants to waste disposal facilities. Now the SFPUC and the Port want to dump
another project in our community. We urge the Board of Supervisors to :
(1) demand that all
of the $27 million go to close the Southeast Wastewater Treatment Plant,
(2) that the SF PUC
get a guarantee from the State that building the TBC will result in closing
the Potrero Power Plant,
(3) if the project
moves forward, that 50% of all TBC work be done by local workers from the
community.
